Thanks so much for your kind words! I contacted Gemma on the morning of our session as the rain was still coming down, offering to re-schedule. They were going on a walk anyway and I was more than welcome to join them! Yes please! I absolutely love the adventurous spirit of this Wairarapa family.
Kids Alexander and Owen really enjoyed exploring the Carter Scenic Reserve just outside Carterton. We spotted kereru, tui and fantails. The narrow boardwalk through the wetlands provided a great platform to sit on, with legs dangling down, to closely inspect the insects and plant life living therein.
In the clearing, we sat down under the trees with the soft morning light filtering in. Out came the thermos of coffee for Mum and Dad; hot chocolate for the boys; and a picnic of fruit to enjoy.
Five and a half year old Alexander loved pointing out the insects he found in his mini identification book. Two year old Owen was fascinated by the rain drops caught in leaves in between cuddles with Mum and Dad. "Quality" sibling time brought the outing to a close and we completed the loop and headed back to the car. There were so many genuine moments between parents and children; and between brothers.
