Wairarapa family photography: Le Grá vineyard and winery

One of my favourite subjects to photograph is a family full of love for the outdoors. Irishman Brian, Kiwi Nicky and their daughter Órlaith are the epitome of this!
So much so that they recently took over the former Loopline vineyard in Opaki, Masterton; with the view of turning it into a true family business.
Órlaith is an incredibly happy child who has a rare medical condition that affects her ability to learn. She learns best practically, with repetition. Learning styles perfectly suited to the practise of viticulture and wine making. It is their hope that Órlaith will continue in the family business one day.
This philosophy of family love is displayed in every aspect. Wine lables feature rings on a cut grape vine, are designed to grow each year, with a love heart at the centre. When Nicky makes her delicious jams and preserves for sale at the cellar door, they too are made with love. In fact ‘Le Grá’ means ‘with love’.
They run a stylish bed and breakfast accommodation onsite and enjoy welcoming members of the New Zealand Motor Caravan Association to stay over night too.
The family aspect is something Nicky is particularly keen to develop at the cellar door. Creating a relaxed environment where adults and children alike can enjoy the vineyard experience.
It was an absolute pleasure becoming friends with this super positive and welcoming family. We enjoyed walking through the vineyard together, meeting their lambs, kitten and miniature schnauzer and tasting wine. Just perfect! See below for a behind the scenes shot featuring the ginger kitten too!
