Sea Views, Seals and Breathtaking Landscapes: Cape Palliser, Wairarapa

The drive to Cape Palliser from Martinborough, in the wonderful Wairarapa region of New Zealand, is to say the least breathtaking. 1 hour 20 minutes down the long and winding road, lies the historic Cape Palliser Lighthouse.
The reward of climbing the over 250 steps to the lighthouse is stunning 180 degree sea views out to the Southern Ocean.
We visited the fascinating Kekeno, New Zealand Fur Seal colony at Palliser Bay. These guys prefer rocky shores, as opposed to sea lions who prefer sandy beaches. We delighted in watching the pups interact and feed from their mothers.
We met a local couple who told us we were super lucky to see a lone Elephant Seal. These heavy creatures usually reside of the cold waters of sub-Antarctica. He was thoroughly enjoying splashing about in a rock pool, much like we do!
I hope you enjoy these landscape and wildlife photos of Palliser Bay and surrounds. I love to document couples in landscapes that mean the world to them.
