Wairarapa maternity photos in the garden at home

Melissa is such a beautiful soul. As is her almost 3 year old son Jaxon. As will be her baby.

I was honoured to capture Melissa two weeks prior to her little baby arriving earthside.

Melissa chose to be photographed with Jaxon in her mum's garden in Masterton, Wairarapa. Her mum is an amazing garden designer.

During Melissa's maternity photo session we wandered leisurely through the garden, with Jaxon leading the way. We started in the avenue of olive trees surrounded by bee hives. Jaxon took great delight showing me the herbs and climbing a tree. Then we explored the orchid and said kia ora to the animals.

The front of the garden was in full spring bloom with a riot of floral colour. Jaxon wanted to pick some flowers for his big sister or brother and spontaneously gave them to him or her via his mum's tummy. It was this moment that was Melissa's favourite from all the photos.

At the start of the session we re-created a portrait Melissa had taken when she was pregnant with Jaxon. Whilst she liked the resulting image, it was this documentary moment she cherishes. It meant a lot to me that this moment captured was her favourite.

"We love our photos, we've had lovely comments on them from visiting friends."

I'm really looking forward to documenting Melissa, her partner and children during their newborn session soon.

I'm Sarah: I provide outdoorsy families who want to avoid fake poses, with documentary-style photos in the Wairarapa and Palmerston North, that can be passed down the generations.

I photograph families at all ages and stages: maternity, newborns at home or in the natural environment, families with babies, toddlers, tweens, teens, the young at heart, parents, grandparents even fur babies!
